5 travel mistakes you don’t want to make

DIf you don’t go barefoot, don’t ignore the safety briefing, don’t be rude to the cabin crew, and don’t clap when the plane lands. Spoken or unspoken, these are some basic rules you should follow while on a plane (for your safety and basic social cues). The pandemic has really affected the travel industry, but as things open up and get back to normal, former and current flight attendants like Kat Kamalani are taking to TikTok to share their travel tips.

5 travel mistakes you never want to make

1. Never take a plane without a snack

This is pretty straightforward. As someone who is constantly hungry, this is a rule I have followed for years. I was recently on a flight that was delayed for hours, and those snacks came in very handy to avoid hangover territory. As Kat says, you never know what’s going to happen

2. Never drink hot water on a plane

Hot water or tea or even coffee, if it is not bottled or in a can, is not available. “Those cisterns are never cleaned and they are disgusting,” she said. She said the water tank is the same for coffee and tea and even the flight attendants rarely drink it. While it was a no-no for Kat, his seasoned colleague had a different view. “I have been a flight attendant for 22 years. I have been drinking hot water for 22 years and I am still alive,” he wrote.

3. Always obey the flight attendants

While Catt didn’t go into further detail, fellow flight attendant Tommy Cimato said just paying attention during the safety briefing could save your life. “When something’s impossible, if you pay attention, you have an 80 percent chance of surviving,” they shared. Pilot Britney and her co-worker elaborated further in another Tik Tok clip, urging viewers to “not insult the flight attendants for your own safety.”

4. Never travel without looking for alternative airports, flights and accommodations

While her wording may not be right at first, Kat corrects her advice in the comments and confirms that you should always look for alternative travel plans. A recent study by Bankrate found that this year alone, 8 out of 10 travelers experienced travel problems, with the most common problems being delays and long waits.. By understanding your environment and alternative plans, you may be able to avoid major issues.

5. Never share too much personal information with the people sitting next to you on the flight

While some viewers find this obvious, others are surprised by this tip. “‘Don’t share too much information,'” wrote one user. I told a random mother my whole life story and trauma yesterday. Meanwhile, others have revealed that they have created a new ID because it’s fun and safe to fly. Don’t you all bring new identities when you travel? Tell someone who is snotty with a crazy story and the people sitting next to you? Another added, “I often make up a new life and share fake random but fun stories about my life,” to which Kat replied, “Genius.”
