A staple of the sci-fi genre, time travel has been done in movies Butterfly effect to the Avengers: Endgame, all with their different rules and results. With many examples leaving plots for the audience to figure out and others making no sense at all, here are five of the best travel movies ever…
5. 12 Monkeys (1995)
The first entry in our list of the top five time travel movies is this one starring Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis and directed by the legendary Terry Gilliam. 12 monkeys Indeed, all the episodes are poised to be a great time travel movie. You’ve got a movie you’re making, with Brad Pitt as a crazy ‘he’s not him’ character and time-traveling Bruce Willis trying to find the source of a deadly virus that’s destroying humanity. It is stuck all over.

4. Main (2004)
Perhaps the one film on this list that makes no attempt to make the mechanics of time travel easily digestible for the audience follows two engineers who demonstrate how to travel through time. If you want to fully appreciate multiple viewings, the first time you watch, you can’t necessarily see whether you’re looking at the future version of the characters, or the present version, or just the past… And then after a second look, check out the many graphs and fan explanations for a true appreciation of how good this is.
3. Groundhog Day (1993)
Starring Bill Murray in the lead role, this film manages a fine line between the funny tropes of being stuck living through the same day, and the philosophical side of things to do things; Solitude, endless choices with no consequences, and how given time and permission, you can learn and improve yourself in any way you want. Starting the film as a regular jaded groupie, Bill Murray ends it as a reformed man.
2. Horror 2: Judgment Day (1991)
I can’t write a list of the top five time travel movies without including this sequel. The entire premise of the film, in fact, the franchise as a whole, revolves around time travel and disrupting the past/present and affecting the future. Easily the best in the franchise, featuring the villain from the very beginning as the second savior, Judgment Day has everything from the very beginning, including action episodes, shooters, stories, and thanks to time travel, motivations and explanations. .
