Cancun continues to be one of the most popular destinations for international travelers in Mexico, and its economy and infrastructure have grown rapidly and steadily over the past few years despite the pandemic crisis.
The major rail Maya project is slated to begin in 2023 and will connect Cancun to many of the most exciting destinations in the Yucatan Peninsula. And this popular destination has not only many transportation options for travelers, but also many accommodation options, many attractions and many species.
Now 13 kilometers from the coast of Cancun, The stunning island of Isla Mujeres will soon have 3 new resorts. Tourists will have more rooms to stay on this amazing island that hosts one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Playa Norte.
The island’s mayor, Athena Gómez Ricalde, recently announced that the three new hotel resort projects under construction will open soon, providing employment opportunities for local residents and new services for visitors.
According to Mexican news site Reporter, the new resorts will add 2,000 new rooms to the more than 10,000 rooms on Isla Mujeres. Travelers will have more options to stay and enjoy more time on the island and not rely only on the popular full-day tours.
Gómez also said that local officials expect about 30,000 visitors to the island next holiday season and higher residents due to Cancun’s high tourism demand. In April of this year, hotels in Cancun were 90% occupied for the summer season and local authorities expect tourism trends to continue.
New resorts in Isla Mujeres
The mayor did not reveal which companies would be offering new resorts on the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres. However, a few months ago the Secret Resorts & Spas brand—which is part of the AMR Collection and Hyatt World—announced that it would be opening a new resort on Isla Mujeres by the end of the year. The new secret resort is expected to start welcoming guests in December.
Secret View Isla Mujeres is just 25 minutes from downtown Cancun and offers travelers exclusive services for couples and exclusive luxury experiences. The resort will be for adults only – the brand’s target – and will offer visitors an all-inclusive experience with unlimited services and 24-hour room service, unlimited drinks, butler services, catamaran services, endless entertainment and more.
On the other hand, the Caribbean island resort also announced a few days ago that two new projects are pending approval and will add 745 rooms. According to information published on El Economista news site, one of the projects will be a resort and the other a boutique hotel.
The reporter shared information about other companies in the industry interested in developing projects in Isla Mujeres. In the past few years, major international brands such as Riu, Catalunya, Melia, Planet Hollywood, TRS and Grand Palladium have invested in this destination.
