2022 MTV VMA’s Red Carpet Celebrity Fashion Trends

Since the ’80s, the MTV VMAs have provided a platform for artists and musicians who might otherwise be overlooked at mainstream media awards shows. Along with the annual Music Video Contestants show, there’s also the much-anticipated red carpet event – where stars come together to promote their latest work and discuss their fashion sense.

This year’s VMA carpet was covered in a green, black and white color palette and contained a mix of pop, shock and designer faux pas, allowing artistic self-expression to play off the monochromatic fashion trend.

2022 Multiple VMA award winner – and show co-host – Jack Harlow, took to the carpet in an all-black leather ensemble designed by Glenn Martens for Diesel. Budding rapper Tosi wore a bold green H.Lorenzo leather two-piece ensemble, while JID opted for a full Saint Laurent look and J Balvin gave off clean all-white Louis Vuitton vibes.

Colton Haynes

Colton Haynes had colorful sophistication in mind when he chose a lime green Dior double-breasted suit. Flared leggings were cinched in at the waist and rested on chunky platform shoes. The bare chest added definition to the suit jacket.

Jack Harlow

Co-host and multiple VMA Award winner Jack Harlow showed off subtle black skin on the carpet. Diesel’s look consisted of a leather jacket paired with a slouch-fabric high-neck top, leather pants and peep-toe leather boots. Warm brown ombre-lens shades are out of sight.

J Balvin

VMAs star J Balvin graced the red carpet with a clean all-white palette of Louis Vuitton men’s pants. Balvin’s orange hair complements his handsome black eye and jeweled accessories.

Lil Nas X

Multiple VMA award winner Lil Nas X turned heads in a chest-piercing black textured ensemble designed by Harris Reid with black feathers. The costume consisted of a massive three-ringed feathered headdress and a six-ringed feathered ball gown over black fitted trousers. He accentuated his look with subtle jewelery from De Beers.

Lauren Spencer-Smith

American Idol alum Lauren Spencer-Smith looks cool and laid back in a neon green oversize. The singer-songwriter’s electric color choice features an oversized boxer jacket with wide-leg pants, a knit top and a fitted baseball cap from Christian Wijants. She completed her look in style with a pair of green-white-black Air Jordan 1s.

DJ Khaled

As DJ Khaled kicks off the release of his latest project, “God Made It,” he keeps things cool with a gray Prada suit. His signature eye frames feature a subtle pink ombre hue, while the lime green Nike Air-Force One offers a slight pop of color.

Black bear

Emerging artist Blackbear opted for leather and labels for his red carpet moment. Dressed in a layered Givenchy top and oversized black leather trousers, he accessorised with oversized black frames, Givenchy trainers and a black Vetements beanie.

Compensation

Superstar Migos member Offset presented himself in an all-white outfit for this year’s celebration. The outfit consisted of a cropped boxy single-breasted jacket with full-leg pants, topped off with white and green sneakers and black shades.

“Big Energy” rapper Lato wowed on the carpet in a lime green multi-armed super-mini cropped jacket and skirt. A vivid leather ensemble is accented with a jeweled silver bag and lime green mules.

Ken Brown

Country singer Ken Brown became the first male country artist to perform at the VMAs and showed up on the carpet in a full Prada look. A black satin suit with a single-breasted jacket and cargo pants with a green open-neck shirt worn underneath the jacket. Lug-solt black leather boots and Vacheron Constantin jewelry added the finishing touches to the ensemble.

LL Arif J

Event emcee LL Cool J is dressed in his signature high street style flair. Beanie-covered head, shades, gold chains and sneakers. The leather bomber jacket, black t-shirt, and black leather pants were paired with black patent leather Nike Air Jordan 1s with a gold “Swoosh” and a four-finger “Cool J” gold ring.

Music icon Avril Lavigne returned to the red carpet in an uncomplicated and all-black Versace skater look. Her oversized pants were held in place by a black leather belt with overlapping metal chains.

Celebrating his latest music release, JID strutted down the VMAs red carpet wearing head-to-toe Saint Laurent. The all-black look featured an intricately embroidered top paired with shiny black velvet pants. She completed the look with black leather boots and frosted jewelry.

New York rapper and budding style star Tosi walked the VMAs red carpet wearing a two-piece leather jacket and pants ensemble designed by H.Lorenzo. The green was accessorized with a white Saint Laurent sweater top, white leather Saint Laurent boots, white gloves and a hooded Marni face mask.
