AAA reports that 32% of Americans plan to travel for Labor Day weekend, and most will be in a car. FOX Weather’s Katie Byrne reports from the 95 Pennsylvania Welcome Center.
new york – Summer is almost here, which means millions of Americans will be hitting the roads and heading to the skies for Labor Day weekend.
And most of the people who are traveling take their car as opposed to a plane, more than 80%, they travel.

AAA predicts this will be the busiest Labor Day travel weekend in three years, matching pre-pandemic levels. Trends are similar to this year’s busy Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends. And whether you’re driving or flying, travel experts recommend leaving early in the morning or in the evening.

“AAA expects Friday, Sept. 2, to be the busiest travel day of the holiday weekend, as we’re seeing mixed travelers trying to get down to the beach on Friday afternoon,” AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Jana Tidwell said. “It’s not going to be fun trying to get to the beaches during those peak commute times. It’s not going to be easy.”

Going off-peak not only saves time but also money by reducing the gas you burn sitting in traffic.
AAA is urging people hitting the road this weekend to get their vehicle inspected before the trip to avoid breakdowns. Robert Sinclair, AAA spokesman, joined FOX Weather to talk more about the Labor Day trip.
Gas prices have fallen since hitting the 5-gallon highs seen in June. Now, $3.82 is the national average.
When high temperatures are forecast, you don’t want to deal with any car problems on the side of the road in the heat. Be sure to check your battery before your road trip.
Labor Day Forecast: Heat, rain could spell a miserable end to summer for millions
The Fox Forecast Center says models are in agreement that much of the East will be in contact with stormy weather and the West will remain warm and humid through the Labor Day holiday.

AAA says their top calls are for dead batteries and flat tires.
“The heat has a general effect on car batteries, especially on car batteries. And we’re in five heat waves this season,” Tidwell said.
AAA expects more than 545,000 crashes nationwide for the Labor Day holiday, according to last year’s data.
Congestion on the road can be dangerous for drivers, passengers and those who come to their aid. On average, a tow truck driver is killed somewhere in the US every two weeks helping broken-down drivers, according to AAA.
While AAA says most traveling Americans will be in the car, a large number are flying for the long weekend. Fox Weather’s Robert Ray reports from Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
All major airports will charge, as will your luggage.
For those taking to the skies this weekend, it is highly recommended to catch the first flight of the day to avoid delays and use baggage claim to avoid lost luggage. International flyers must ensure that their passports are not expired.

All major airports will be packed, AAA expects, with domestic bookings up 22% and international bookings up 104% compared to last year.

“We expect to see about 1.6 million passengers from (Atlanta) Hartsfield-Jackson (Airport) from Thursday through Tuesday after the holiday,” said Andrew Gobeil, director of communications at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. “That’s slightly more than we estimated last year; 1.3 million passengers at the same time. Travel seems to be coming back, as if you need me to tell you that, and things are picking up.”
Flyers should have their airline’s app on their phone to be notified of any delays or cancellations.
The festival’s top domestic destinations are Seattle, Orlando and Las Vegas. According to AAA data, overseas travelers are heading to Italy, Canada and Ireland.
