Wow, I was literally overwhelmed! There are many activities, adventures and attractions to choose from in Colorado Springs’ Colorado Pikes Peak region. I recently spent a week here and the choices of what to do and see are amazing and endless. In this article, I will focus on exciting adventures and unique ways to see this amazing foreign country!

*Adventures to the West

This place is a one-stop shop for a true Rocky Mountain experience. Adventures Out West brings the toys to you to enjoy in the giant playground of the Pikes Peak region.

One of the highlights of my trip was our Segway tour through the world famous Garden of the Gods. This 300-foot colored sandstone formation is a National Natural Landmark with spectacular views. This tour is known as one of the most challenging Segway trails in the USA. We have conquered hills and falls and the scenery is breathtaking. Our guide gave us safety lessons and lots of fun facts about the Garden of the Gods, one of which was amazingly… it’s a free city park!

We also enjoy driving a new class, open-air 4×4 jeep around the region, one tour of which takes you all the way to the summit of Pikes Peak. This is a great choice for all ages.

Adventures Out West and its loyal staff of fun-loving tour guides will soon celebrate 50 years. They’ve been taking visitors and locals on every great adventure imaginable for decades. If it’s fun outdoors – do it!

*Broadmoor and Manitou Pikes Peak Cog Railway and Summit House

After completing an extensive restoration project, “The Cog is Back on Track” to usher in a new era of adventure at Pikes Peak, “America’s Mountain”…and boy is it beautiful! They have a newly renovated European-style warehouse, shiny new trains and miles of new tracks that take visitors on an exciting journey spanning more than 130 years. This 9-mile hike takes you to Pikes Peak’s 14,115-foot summit with unique panoramic views of several life zones. This tour begins at the Cog Railroad Depot located at the foot of historic Manitou Springs. Be aware that they sell out, so book in advance!

Once you reach the top of Pikes Peak, you’ll have the opportunity to check out the beautiful, new state-of-the-art Pikes Peak Summit Visitor Center, which opened last year. Here, people of all ages and abilities can see a number of interpretive exhibits that tell the fascinating history of this mountain. And be sure to take time to eat the world-famous Pikes Peak donuts and other treats while enjoying the expansive and spectacular views.

With a new summit house, new trains and miles of new tracks, the Cog Railway is ready to take Colorado visitors on an unforgettable ride for over a century!

*Echo Canyon River Trips

Whether you’re looking for an extreme whitewater rafting trip, a scenic float, or a camping adventure, I recommend Echo Canyon. This is where you can gear up for a wet and wild ride on the rapids of the Arkansas River. They have all the equipment needed for your adventure and half day, full day and multi day, adventure trips. It’s all about clashing, rocking, teamwork, laughter and heart-pounding fun. Our trip was the absolute best whitewater rafting trip and our guides were experienced, professional and fun.

Later, believe me; You’ll be ready to refuel! And luckily, 8 Mile Bar & Grill in Echo Canyon is there. It has cold craft beers, cocktails and hot, delicious food. Folks, this is not bar food. All fresh and delicious prepared by the chef. The menu is excellent and the terrace area is a great place to have a drink and a meal.

And…if you want more, the more the merrier. You can spend the night just across the street. Echo Canyon has an excellent range of accommodation options, from luxury cabins to high-end glitz, all on the edge of the spectacular Royal Gorge with crystal clear skies and a canopy of trillions of stars. What an unforgettable memory!

All this and more is at the base of Pikes Peak, the quintessential Rocky Mountain experience. The Pikes Peak region is truly one of America’s greatest natural playgrounds. Now I understand why the Pikes Peak region has long been a popular vacation destination for generations of Texans!
