“Everything is messed up,” said Howard Vermont of Westchester County.

Vermont was still trying to figure out how to get his 89-year-old mother back to Kansas.

“They had me come out on Christmas Day and meet in Missouri and meet an 89-year-old mother. I can’t do that,” Vermont said.

The storm is affecting those who plan to travel by air, train or car. About 190 million people are under winter weather advisories, according to the National Weather Service.

AAA expects traffic on New York’s busiest thoroughfare to be double the usual on Friday as commuters join holidaymakers.

“You can imagine a lot of company, and if the weather is bad, it makes it worse,” said AAA’s Robert Sinclair Jr.

Travel experts say that if an airline cancels a flight, passengers are entitled to a full refund, not just a credit for future travel.
