LUBOK, Texas – Texas Tech Football plans a $ 200 million project to build a new four-story building in the southern tip zone, locking rooms, coaches’ offices and Red Field invaders.
The building closes at the south end of the Jones AT&T Stadium and connects Skybridge with the school’s Sports Performance Center and a two-story Womble Soccer Center that replaces the existing training facility.
“As you can see in college football, the training ground, the proximity of the indoor facility, and then the connection to the stadium, will be in a very good position,” said Kirby Hawkut, director of athletics at Texas Tech.
The project will renovate the South End Zone and maintain the school’s popular double T scoreboard. A new two-tier scoreboard, slightly larger than the original one installed in 1978, will be housed in a four-story building surrounded by bell towers and video boards.
The South End Zone Project and the Womble Football Center have a combined space: a player lounge, a new locker room and a TV studio for game day and social media content.
“We can’t be more excited about our future football program and what this institution is doing in terms of player growth and recruitment,” said coach Joy McGier.
The school’s project is largely funded by private fundraising and annual athletics department revenue sources such as the sale of new premium seats. After the Texas Tech managers approved the project at a meeting next month, the project is expected to be completed after the 2022 season, before the 2024 season.
