of Miami Hurricanes Georgia Tech heads north to Bobby Dodd Stadium to take on the Yellow Jackets. It can be a cold day in the ATL since it’s a Veterans Day weekend show. The ‘Canes and Jackets’ all-time record for wins is 13. Miami has a one-game winning streak dating back to last season.

Information: Miami @ Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA)

Date/Time/Channel: November, 12, 2022 / TBA / TBA

The Geoff Collins era is on the hot seats this summer with GT winning three games in a season under Collins. Since Collins took over in Atlanta, the Jackets haven’t even been able to match Bolan’s game. On the other hand, Paul Johnson has coached the Jackets to nine bowl games in 11 seasons, including two Orange Bowls (1-1 in those games).

2021 record: 3-9 (2-6 in ACC)

Bowl game: N/A

“I remember this guy!”

Tech’s flash player is none other than the late Joseph “Joe” Anoa’i. Who would you ask?! But you’re probably more familiar with his work name – Roman Reigns. Anoai, a native of Pensacola, FL, was a three-year starter and team captain for the Jackets from 2004-2006 his senior season.

In the year In his senior season in 2006, Anoai was named an All-ACC first-team defensive back after recording 40 tackles and 9.5 sacks for loss. He was playing with 300 pounds. In the year Before playing in the CFL in 2008, Anoai was on the practice squads for the Vikings and Jaguars after going undrafted.

Anoa’i eventually turned to the family business of professional wrestling and became the WWE Champion and one of the biggest names in professional wrestling.

Data and people

Georgia Tech entered SP+ as planned for the 2022 season 90th ranked team in the nation.

SP+ Forecast Summary: 90 (Miami 14)

SP+ Prog. Damage: 64 (Miami 21)

SP+ Prog. Defense: 111 (Miami 23)

The Jackets have a single player on the first three teams of the Athlone ACC All-Conference Preseason Team. That lone player is linebacker Charlie Thomas, and he’s on. The third group Defense. Thomas has 26.5 TFL’s, eight sacks and three PBU’s in his four years in Atlanta. The hybrid LB/safety is expected to be a big-time player in ’22.

on the fourth group Offense, GT landed RB Donta Smith and OL Jordan Williams. Smith averaged 5.6 yards per carry with four TDs last season. He has seven career rushing TDs, primarily as Gibbs’ understudy.

Collins was hired to improve recruiting, especially in Atlanta, but the Yellow Jackets didn’t get many four-stars under Collins, and only developed four draft picks in three seasons. Of those four picks, two were taken in the 6th round (TE Tyler Davis, WR Jalen Camp) and two were taken in the 7th (Punter Pressley Harvin III, LB Tariq Carpenter).

The Jackets’ 22 recruiting class is ranked 54th out of 247. GT landed three four-stars in the 22nd, while the 47th-ranked class landed two four-stars in the 21st and the 27th-ranked had four four-stars in the 20th. Gibbs and Sims.

This wasn’t exactly the drastic recruiting and development turnaround that was expected when Paul Johnson retired and Collins came to the 404 from Temple.

With new OC Chip Long coming to Georgia Tech from Tulane, the Green Wave offense finished 74th in SP+ with 21. For reference, Tulane’s offense finished the 2020 season ranked 39th in SP+ under former OCC Southern Miss head coach Will Hall.

QB Jeff Sims returns for his third year as the starting QB for the Jackets. Collins said Willie Taggart’s run in Tallahassee ended after flipping Sims from Florida State, but it didn’t spark the Jackets as much as he had previously thought. The six-foot-three former four-star has thrown for 25 TDs with 20 INTs in a rollercoaster career. I even wrote this piece for the SB Nation site From the Rumble Seat on Sims hot or cold play.

Above– Tech will open the spring game with 12 (one back, two tight ends) in a 2×2 formation.

Above– I don’t know why Long chose to pull the two slower guys on this counter who won’t get there and the two fast TEs on this counter but hey, it’s just spring, right?

Above– Spot-slide down the field (1 WR side) is a good combo. The WR runs slowly to sit and the back pulls the flat defender from that position in a slide route to the flat. All-Timer on NCAA Football ’14.

Above– I know this is a spoiler for GT, but was Manny Diaz teaching in Atlanta this spring?

Above– Now that’s Georgia Tech offensive football! Few P5 teams have had three years of extra trouble in the pre-season like GT. They’ve run through all sorts of preemptive issues, from snapshots to formations to illegal subscribers.

Above– GT had issues with QB/RB mesh exchanges, and RPO/play-action issues with the football and QB as well. This is another example of a tech offense stuck in the mud for three years.

Above– In Atlanta, the backup might be better than the starter. Tech will be going with two QBs this year.

Andrew Tucker is DC, but maybe he’s not DC? I’m not sure anyone knows what’s going on in Bobby Dodd on the defensive end. OC Dave Patenaude was the coordinator voted off the Island, but the offense is 20 higher than the defense in SP+, and the projected 22nd by Dave P’s former side of the ball is a 50-point difference.

AboveI normally call Collins and Tucker the base of the 4-2 defense, but as the season went on, they had a very confusing front line and once they got moving, they gave up a lot of rushes.

I asked around the game earlier in the week and was told that GT’s defenses focus on snapping the football and creating lanes. They thought Van Dyke was loose with the throw and the entire Miami offense was generally lax with the ball. It paid off for the Jackets and turned in a 40-point shot that should have been another matchup with Diaz going to overtime.

Above– GT’s defensive backs coaches (CB and safety split in Atlanta) were both fired and replaced with new blood. The Jackets weren’t jamming and messing up the WRs and allowed some free runs for big plays.

Above– When push came to shove, GT pushed him and Miami pushed him around. TFL’s and 4th down stops Rhett Lashlee in Coral Gables. I hope that Josh Gatiss and Alex Mirabal consider it a matter of great importance under the circumstances.

Above– Tech’s defense had some great plays. I hit them hard here before the final clips. They blew a screen early and the CB was there for a Harley TD – something unreal from an NFL quality WR.

Above– It feels so right when I go back to being my enemy. Tech’s defense is blowing the lid on inexplicable busts and then the trick plays fiasco. Although it can be said otherwise.

Above– The reason you can’t just handle the ring is that from 12u you have to step up your playing game and work on solving drills for your level and career. Tech, like Miami, has no idea how to fill their offense, get off balance, or fit and finish.

Canyonero keys to victory

1- Put the pressure on the Sims. Jeff Sims could be without Jahmir Gibbs for the 22nd season, and Gibbs should be the Heisman Trophy favorite when he moves to Alabama. I’m not sure what Sims will do behind a shaky OL, without his star back, and a new OC in Chip Long. Pressure him, make him angry, force him to make mistakes.

2 – Misdemeanor, Run the damn ball. GT has shown that they are as bad at wrestling as Miami. Throw the ball in space and run for their throats. I can’t imagine a 1-1 split in this era of GT football, but Diaz managed it. And one victory was a total of three points.

3- Be less bad than GT in special teams. GT was as bad as Miami in the kicking game, well, being less bad than them. Jonathan Patke is gone, thankfully Miami fans, and the ‘Canes have three great specialists (kicker, punter, long snapper). They just need to get into coverage on kicks and punts and find sure returns.

Very early prediction: Miami by 14.
