Sunmi is my ultimate bias, and falling in love with her wasn’t difficult. She makes it very easy with her unique music, jaw-dropping choreography, mesmerizing styling choices and stunning conceptuality of her music videos. Sunmi is one of the best solo K-pop artists, and her TAIL is a prime example of how multitalented she is. The reference to Halle Berry’s Catwoman is enough to get that 00s nostalgia flowing. As a Y2K fan and a cat lover, I’ve been watching this music video on repeat since it was released.

Another reason that my eyes were glued to the screen every time I saw TAIL was the makeup. Sunmi switches her makeup several times, and I’ve been dying to try her bold eye looks. Given that we have to wear masks when we go out, eye makeup is one of the very few ways left to express our individuality.

Base products for both looks:

I used the same base products (foundation, eyeliner, mascara, brow gel and brow pencil) as I did for my New Year’s Eve Party looks because they’re THAT – you can read more about them here.

Foundation: romand – Clear Cover Cushion Hanbok Project # 01 Pure 21

Eyeliner: peripera – Ink Thin Thin Brush Liner # 01 Black Noir

Mascara: CLIO – Kill Lash Superproof Mascara # 3 Sleek Volume

Brow gel: CLIO – Kill Brow Color Brow Lacquer # 5 Gray Brown

Brow pencil: CLIO – Kill Brow Auto Hard Brow Pencil # 5 Gray Brown

Look 1. Electric Blue + Lavender

Lips: 3CE – Tattoo Lip Tint #Coolest, Flynn Addiction Velvet Tint # 106 Never Mind

Finding a cool-toned berry or mauve lippy among Korean brands is as hard as finding skin care that perfectly suits your needs from the first try. Korean lip makeup tends to feature a lot of warm-toned reds with orange pigment, so it took me some time to uncover this cool-toned tint by 3CE in the #Coolest shade. It’s one of the two cool-toned shades in 3CE’s immensely popular Tattoo Lip Tint line. Similar to Sunmi’s lips in the MV, it appears to have warm undertones under different lighting, but remains principally cool-toned.

Be careful with the application – its adhesion power is quite impressive, and the pigment that deeply permeates your lips will probably survive a happy hour and a meal. As an alternative, you can use Flynn’s Addiction Velvet Tint in # 106 Never Mind, which has an even more berry-like cool tone.

Eyes: Dazzshop # 05 This Night, UNLEASHIA Glitterpedia # 4 All of Lavender Fog

For the upper lid, I used Dazzshop’s pencil eyeliner in the bright blue # 05 This Night. It’s highly pigmented, and effortlessly glides on lids. The formula dries very fast and requires almost surgical precision during application for even coverage, but the color payoff is worth it. This electric bright blue complements any eye color, and it’s sure to elicit many compliments due to its rarity.

For the lower lid, I went with my latest obsession, one of UNLEASHIA’s Glitterpedia palettes in # 4 All of Lavender Fog. I used #Soft Lavender as the base color and #Purple Moon for extra glimmer to enhance the purple shine. The palette boasts nine shades of purple in matte, shimmer and creamy glitter formulations, so it’s easy to recreate the exact color Sunmi wore in the video, or to create your own variation of purple that complements your skin undertone.

Look 2: Honey Yellow + Red

Bright yellow monotone lids and a bright red lipstick is quite a powerful look. Even though the lips might stay under the mask, the bold eyes are enough to gain attention, while being versatile enough for parties and even the office.

Lips: 3CE Velvet Lip Tint in #Private

A perfect balanced red that suits both warm and cool undertones is a safe choice for any look. The creamy texture of 3CE’s Velvet Lip Tint gently adheres to the lips without drying them out, creating even matte coverage.

Eyes: CLIO – Pro Eye Palette #Into Lace, SAEM Single Blush in #Honey Yellow

Yellow is a color statement, and not many palettes have it. I didn’t want to buy a whole palette just for one color and failed to find a quad or single yellow eye shadow, so I resorted to using The Saem’s Single Blush in #Honey Yellow. This blush is highly pigmented, easily blendable and super affordable for the purpose of experimenting with a new color or a statement look. Who knows? Maybe yellow will become your to-go color!

To create depth, I added the darkest (# 5) of CLIO’s Pro Eye Palette #Into Lace on the lash line and the outer corner of the lower lid. I initially assumed yellow eye shadow wouldn’t be versatile, but the results turned out to be outstanding yet highly wearable for a daily look.
