MEDINA, Ohio — Medina County Health Commissioner Krista Wasowski spoke about her department’s upcoming levy renewal at this week’s City Council meeting.

“Keep Medina County healthy — that’s what your health department is asking to do for the next 10 years, just as we have done for the past 100 years,” said Wasowski.

“We have many residents who use our services and we have many residents who do need us. … So renewing the levy on Nov. 8 will ensure the health department can continue to protect babies, families, seniors and individuals alike.”

The 0.7-mill, 10-year levy is a renewal only, not a tax increase, she noted. It is also a fixed-cost levy, which means it will not be affected by upcoming property value reappraisals in the county. In other words, taxpayers won’t be paying more if the levy is approved.

“I just ask you to vote yes, and I ask all the viewers who are watching tonight to vote yes for the levy renewal,” Wasowski said.

In other news, Fire Chief Larry Walters spoke about the fire department’s upcoming annual open house and safety day, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Fire Station No. 1, 300 W. Reagan Parkway.

“It’s a good event for the kids and family alike. A lot of safety information,” said Walters. “We are scheduled to have Metro Life Flight land at the parking lot across the street at Regal Cinemas.”
