She was the first female CEO of the VW Group as CEO of Dentsu South Africa.

She takes over from John Dixon, who led the group for five years and now holds the position of chairman.

Africa is the next frontier

Gevender lives in the philosophy “Success is one aspect, and the meaning is very important”. She believes that Africa is the next frontier of marketing innovation.

“I am grateful, excited, and truly inspired to begin this journey at Publicis. It is time for Africa to take center stage in the world of communication. I am here to show the world that it is time to shine,” says Govender.

People power

As an industry stalwart, Govender will be responsible for driving creative, media, PR and influencer, product, business and information and technology practices for the team in Africa to enable Publius to win in the platform world. Under 16 brands represented in the market.

While generating impact for clients is a key responsibility, Govender insists her position is based on one key driver.

“Our greatest asset will always be people power. I am very fortunate to be in a position to tap into a shared potential that is unmatched in Africa and around the world. I always put people first, and then the influence will surely follow. There is no development without people, says Govender.

An important step for women in the industry

Businesswoman, media mogul, philanthropist and PGA shareholder Basetsana Khumalo is encouraged by the appointment of Ku Govender as the PGA’s new CEO.

“I see this as a big step not only for transformation, but for women in this industry. I can’t think of a more amazing candidate on this continent to lead this business and the industry forward. This is a huge step forward for African marketing as a movement for change and growth,” says Basestana.

Moving the needle forward in the communications industry has always driven Gevender to design a space where women can thrive.

“I have been civilized, and I know it will allow me to give the same position to many women who want a break in this male-dominated industry. This can only come from the top down where actions speak louder than words,” says Govender.
